2. JOHN2 DUFFUS (JAMES1) was born August 19, 1771 in Elgin, Morayshire, Scotland, and died January 19, 1840 in Charleston, SC; buried at Scots Presbyterian Church, Meeting Street, Charleston. He married ANN JOHNSON October 02, 1800 in Charleston, SC.

Children of JOHN DUFFUS and ANN JOHNSON are:

i. JOHN JAMES3 DUFFUS, b. January 14, 1806, Charleston, SC; d. January 20, 1807.

ii. JOHN JOACHIM DUFFUS, b. September 14, 1814, Charleston, SC; d. March 15, 1816, Charleston, SC.

iii. JAMES LANIER(?) DUFFUS, b. June 23, 1817, Charleston, SC.

John Duffus was one of the founders of the Scot's Presbyterian Church in Charleston. I have reconstructed this portion of his tree from the Scottish Church Records.

 

Sacred to the memory of John Duffus Born in Elgin County of Moray Scotland the 19th of August 1771 and died the 19th July 1840 aged 74 years and 11 months also to his children John James born 14 Jany 1806 Died 20th Jany 1807 John Joachim Born 14th Sept 1814 Died 15th March 1816 James Lanier(?) Born 23rd June 1817

In 1832 John Duffus was shown to be a member of the congregation. From 1814 to 1834 he is shown to be the Secretary of the Church corporation.

MARRIAGE RECORDS FROM SOUTH CAROLINA

On October 4, 1800 John Duffus married Ann Johnson as recorded in the South Carolina Gazette.

On April 4, 1834 J. A. Duffus married Louis Leefe as recorded in the Charleston Observer.
