LETTER FROM DIANNE WERE

7 November 1998.
Dear Duffus Family,
My name is Dianne Were, I am writing to you in the hope that you or one of your relations can help me, please.
James Stewart Duffus known as Stewart, was my Great grandfather, He married Ellen Moyle in 1894 at Brokenhill, New South Wales, Australia and they had seven children. On the marriage certificate, his occupation was a Seaman and his place of birth was Dundee, Scotland. It did not give his age but I think he was born around 1847-50.
Last year I met a cousin for the first time and she produced a photo album, which had belonged to her father, who was the son and the first born to Stewart and Ellen Duffus. in the album were some photos that had been taken in Dundee and Arbroath. One had christian names on the back - Stewart and Jim, who appeared to be athletes. The photographer, being Geddes & Son, 14 Applegate, Arbroath.
At about the time Stewart came to Australia (date unknown) there was a Harry Walker Duffus here too, probably with Stewart. I don't know if they were brother or cousins. Harry and Annie Moyle had a child in 1896- Roland George Stephen Annie was Ellen Moyle's sister. Sometime later Harry and Annie went Bootle, Liverpool, England to live. He died during the First World War, his death notice in the Australian newspaper, said he was born in Dundee.
The census records indicate that a John and Matilda Duffus resided in the township of Arbroath (1866-1890's) and their children were:- George, Fanny, John, Stewart, William, James, Harry and Mary. What was the connection between Stewart and Harry and the family of Duffus that lived in Arbroath?
Would you know who Stewart's parents were?
Does anyone recognize the above names or photos on the attached sheets?
I would be extremely grateful for any help you can give me and I am willing to reimburse you for postage.
Thank you for your time in reading my letter and I do hope to hear from you soon.
Yours faithfully,
Dianne Were
