Tuesday, July 6, 2004 The Answer Guy: First to be retired? No.11, Edgar AG: Yes, there are set criteria, and they are stringent: Player must have been admitted to the Baseball Hall of Fame and spent at least five years in an M's uniform; or come close to election to the Hall and spent substantially his entire career with the Mariners. No player can be considered until six years after retirement. Edgar would seem the likeliest of the three candidates you mention. Other former M's who might meet the criteria: outfielder Ken Griffey Jr., pitcher Randy Johnson and manager Lou Piniella. AG: The M's say the bricks are repaired (if possible) or replaced (if repair is not possible). The work of a recent contractor damaged some bricks, and the team is repairing or replacing those, but it is uncertain when that work will be completed. Fans who notice damage to the bricks should tell the Bullpen Market's Guest Service Center. AG: The M's removed the team flags during the monthlong mourning period following the death of former President Reagan. The ballclub did not feel that flying the team flags would be appropriate when Old Glory was lowered to half-staff. The P-I Answer Guy tackles questions about the
