POLICE yesterday said that they
incorrectly identified the three men killed by gunmen in the
Mountain View area of Kingston on Tuesday because they were carrying
false passports.
The police had used passports found
on the men to identify them as Winston Edwards, alias "Chin" of
Wavell Avenue, Kingston; Devon Hutchinson, 44, of Waltham Park Road,
also in Kingston; and Michael Duffus whose address was unknown.
But yesterday, the Constabulary
Communication Network (CCN), the police's information arm, said the
bodies were positively identified yesterday by the wife of one of
the slain men.
According to the CCN, the man they
thought was Winston Edwards has now been identified as Glenroy
Edwards, otherwise called "Trinity", 35; the man carrying a passport
identifying him as Devon Hutchinson is really Desmond Wallace, alias
"Ross"; and Michael Duffus is actually Linval Lewis, 33, of
Torrington Park, Kingston.
Edwards and Wallace, the police
said, have Waltham Park Road addresses.
The men were shot dead at about
11:15 Tuesday morning after they had apparently gone to receive
prayers, before travelling to England, from a woman claiming to be a
clairvoyant.
Wallace, the police said, was found
lying face down on Saunders Avenue, while the others were found in a
grey Toyota Mark II motorcar on Vernon Avenue.
Based on the names in the
passports, the men were initially said to have been members of the
British Link Up Crew, a group of young men who promote dancehall
events across the island. But given this new information, police
were unable to say whether the slain men were in fact associated
with the group.
Yesterday, investigators at the
Elletson Road Police Station told the Observer they were collecting
statements and gathering intelligence on the triple murder.
