Priory, St Ann - A St Ann woman, whose newborn baby girl was found buried in a shallow grave, is to appear in the parish's Resident Magistrate's Court tomorrow to face a charge of concealment of birth.

According to the Constabulary Communication Network, at about 8:30 last Friday morning, citizens contacted the police and told them that Jacqueline Duffus, a 30 year-old vendor from Priory, had dumped her baby in a pit latrine.

Following investigations, the St Ann police went to Priory and took Duffus into custody. Further investigations led the lawmen to a home in Charles Town some time after 1:00 pm where Duffus allegedly showed them a pit latrine, but no baby was found.

The St Ann's Bay fire department was brought in to assist the police in the search for the newborn, but to no avail.
However, acting on information, the police returned to Priory later in the afternoon. The infant's body was found wrapped in a plastic bag and buried in a shallow grave.
Duffus was then charged.
